Lucy Wainwright

MA Art Psychotherapy, PGDip Clinical Supervision

Hello! I'm Lucy.

Lucy

I work with:

People come to therapy for many reasons. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, trauma, relationship difficulties, loss, self-esteem, or a sense that life has become difficult to navigate. You may be beginning to understand yourself through the lens of autism or ADHD, or trying to make sense of patterns that have followed you for many years.

I offer a warm, thoughtful and non-judgemental space in which we can explore what is happening in your life and how you came to be where you are. Together we can make sense of difficult experiences, recurring patterns, relationships, emotions and ways of coping that may once have been necessary but no longer serve you well.

My approach is informed by my training as an Art Psychotherapist and my experience working with trauma, neurodivergence, loss, identity and life transitions. Some clients come with a clear difficulty they want to address, while others arrive with a feeling that something is not quite right but are unsure where to begin. Both are welcome.

I offer counselling and psychotherapy in a comfortable and discreet therapy room in Whaley Bridge, High Peak, and online across the UK. Sessions are usually 60 minutes and take place weekly. In our first meeting we will explore what has brought you to therapy, what support you are looking for, and whether I am the right therapist for you.

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" ~ Mary Oliver

Art therapy for adults in Derbyshire and Online

"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." ~ Thomas Merton

Art therapy offers another way of exploring experiences that can be difficult to put into words. Images, objects and creative processes can help us express feelings, memories and ideas that may be hard to access through conversation alone.

No artistic skill or experience is needed. Art therapy is not about producing beautiful artwork, but about curiosity, expression and discovery. The focus is on the process rather than the finished piece.

As an HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist, I offer art therapy both in person and online. I will work alongside you with care and respect, helping you explore the meaning of what emerges and supporting you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your experience.

Ecotherapy

Outdoor therapy offers the opportunity to step into a more spacious, embodied way of working. Walking or sitting in nature can help us slow down, notice what is happening inside, and connect more deeply with ourselves and the world

My Nature Office is near Taxal Moor Road, a few minutes from the centre of Whaley Bridge. It is a peaceful hillside of mixed woodland, open views and winding paths, offering privacy and tranquillity despite the occasional dog walker or jogger. Sessions may involve walking, sitting, talking, noticing, reflecting or simply spending time in the landscape together.

Many people find that being outdoors helps them think differently, access emotions more easily, and feel less confined than they do in the therapy room. The changing seasons, weather and natural environment can all become part of the therapeutic process.

You do not need to be especially fit to benefit from ecotherapy, only reasonably mobile and appropriately dressed for the conditions. If the weather makes an outdoor session unsafe or impractical, we can meet indoors or online instead. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss any adaptations that would help you access outdoor therapy safely and comfortably.

Online therapy

Online therapy offers a flexible and effective way to access support in the comfort of your own home. It may suit you if you have a busy schedule, limited mobility, caring responsibilities, health concerns, or simply prefer to work from your own space.

I hold a qualification in online and telephone therapy and have many years' experience of working remotely. Online therapy can be every bit as thoughtful, relational and meaningful as meeting in person, and many clients find it easier to reflect and speak openly when they are in familiar surroundings.

Sessions take place on Teams or by telephone. Art therapy and nature-based approaches can also be adapted for online work where appropriate and of interest.

Clinical Supervision for Counsellors and Psychotherapists

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision from the University of Derby and offer supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, trainee therapists and other helping professionals.

My approach is relational, reflective and collaborative. I aim to provide a supportive space in which you can think deeply about your work, explore challenges and uncertainties, develop your clinical confidence, and attend carefully to ethical and professional responsibilities. We may also consider process, embodiment, creativity, safeguarding, boundaries and the wider organisational systems within which you work.

I offer supervision online, in person, outdoors and by telephone. Sessions take place four-weekly and are 90 minutes long as standard, allowing time for thoughtful reflection and giving the work room to breathe.

Reduced rates are available for counselling and psychotherapy students.

Please contact me to discuss your needs and requirements.

About me

Hello! I'm Lucy.

Lucy

I am curious about the stories we tell ourselves, the relationships that shape us, and the ways we adapt to survive difficult experiences. I believe that meaningful change begins with understanding, compassion and the courage to look honestly at our lives. My role is not to tell you who to be, but to help you discover more fully who you already are.

I value thoughtful, long-term work and believe that lasting change often emerges through a relationship that is steady, curious and compassionate.

Whaley Bridge is easily reached from Buxton, Macclesfield, New Mills, Manchester, Sheffield and more, or meet me online from anywhere in the UK.
